Dealing with Vicarious Trauma in PoSH cases

Vicarious trauma is an occupational challenge for people working and volunteering in the fields of victim services, law enforcement, emergency medical services and other such professions, due to their continuous exposure to victims of trauma and violence. As IC Members and External Members, we often deal with cases involving traumatic and intense incidents of sexual harassment and consent violations. This can likely lead to symptoms of vicarious trauma, which can in turn impact not only our emotional wellbeing and personal life, but also our objectivity and ability to work in an efficient manner. This workshop introduces vicarious trauma and the various forms it can affect us followed by a discussion on ways to manage stress and deal with difficult cases so that we do not absorb and carry the trauma in our bodies and minds.
